The Golden State Warriors are already a championship-caliber team even before Kevin Durant arrives. But when KD arrived at the Bay Area, they became a more dangerous team. They were pounding opponents with their offensive firepower and overwhelming talents. They were so great that when they lose, it's always an upset no matter who their opponents are.
But when Kevin Durant injured in a game against the Washington Wizards, the Dubs found themselves struggling to get W's. During the first 59 games of the season with KD, the Warriors have a record of 50-9. But with Durant's absence, the Dubs went on with a disappointing 3-5 win-loss record.
They still have three All-Stars in Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. But they lack the benchpower that they once have. And according to Blue Man Hoop, the Warriors need an aggressive Andre Iguodala for them to get back on the right track.
The Dubs' are a championship-caliber team since Steve Kerr took over the coaching job in 2015-2016 season. They reached the NBA Finals in the last two seasons and won an NBA Championship in 2015. But this season is a different story.
Before KD arrived, the Warriors have one of the best role players in the league. But in order to get KD, they sacrificed a lot of their key players like Harrison Barnes, Andrew Bogut, Leandro Barbosa and Marreese Speights. With Durant being injured and might not be available until the postseason, Iguodala needs to step up and provide that spark that he showed during the NBA Finals in 2015 wherein he won the NBA Finals MVP.
Iguodala is averaging almost an identical numbers from last season with 6.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.0 steal in 26.3 minutes, as per BASKETBALL REFERENCE. He is only averaging 5.1 field-goal attempts this season. But he needs to increase his shoots now that Durant is still healing from injury.
They won their last game against the Philadephia 76ers with a score of 106-104. But given the number of wins that each team won, the Dubs should have won that game by a wide margin especially that they played that game at home. But it is clear that they are struggling and still learning to find ways to win games without KD.
In that game against the Sixers, Iguodala played 33 minutes. But he only scored 7 points in 8 field-goal attempts. The Dubs need Iguodala's offensive productive to get better.
Yes. Their three All-Stars need to play better and they will surely do that. But they need help from other players like Iguodala, Matt Barnes, David West, Shaun Livingston, JaVale McGee and Ian Clark. And out of those players, Iguodala is their best chance. If Iguodala will just be more aggressive and shoot more, the Warriors will have a better chance of winning games.
