One would think that the NBA would be a diverse and racist free league, with the NBA having a lot of international players, but that's not the case. Especially if you're an Asian player. The book is about the ways how the human mind errs and they are forced to make judgments about the uncertain situations. During his research, Michael Lewis interviewed Daryl Morey, the Houston Rockets General Manager, about an uncertain situation during the 2010 NBA Draft. That uncertain situation involves current Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin.
According to Daryl Morey, racial bias played a major factor in why the Jeremy Lin was not drafted by the Houston Rockets. Daryl Morey admits that he made a mistake in not drafting Jeremy Lin.
Daryl Morey said that they have a pre-draft model and that Jeremy Lin lit up their model. The Houston Rockets should draft Jeremy Lin with the 15th pick, according to the model.
But experts say that Jeremy Lin is not athletic enough. Even Daryl Morey thought that Jeremy Lin was not athletic and his reason, Jeremy Lin was Asian.
Jeremy Lin went undrafted in 2010. After a few stops from several NBA teams, Jeremy Lin played for the New York Knicks and Linsanity was born. It was during Linsanity that Jeremy Lin proved to everybody, including Daryl Morey, that he's athletic enough to be in the NBA.
