Tennis News: Roger Federer Beats Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic Suffers Shock Loss in 2017 Indian Wells

The 2017 Indian Wells Masters Round of 16 had full of action on Wednesday with Roger Federer facing his good friend and longtime rival Rafael Nadal. Novak Djokovic also had the chance to avenge his loss to Nick Kyrgios in the Mexican Open.

Roger Federer Beats Rafael Nadal

The reigning Australian Open champion is having an unforgettable season at the age of 35 years old. Rafael Nadal faced his very good friend Rafael Nadal in the Round of 16 in the 2017 Indians Wells Masters tournament.

The matchup between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal was the 36th of their legendary careers, per BBC Sport. The 6-2 6-3 victory was only his 13th overall against his Spanish rival but it's his third in a row. Federer has greatly improved his weak backhand and he has become more aggressive this year.

Roger Federer is a four-time Indians Wells Masters champion and he is the favorite to win it this year. He will face Australian star Nick Kyrgios, who notched another upset win over World No. 2 Novak Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic Suffers Another Loss to Nick Kyrgios

Back in the 2017 Mexican Open earlier this month, Nick Kyrgios scored an upset win over Novak Djokovic. They faced each other once again in the Round of 16 of the 2017 Indian Wells Masters with Djokovic looking for revenge.

However, it was the 21-year-old Australian star that got his second straight win against the former World No. 1. Kyrgios ended Djokovic's 19-match winning streak in the tournament with a 6-4 7-6 (7-3) victory, as reported by ATP World Tour.

"He obviously comes out playing his style, very aggressive, and just going for every serve, whether it's first or second. It's obviously very hard to play like that," Djokovic said after the game.

Nick Kyrgios will face Roger Federer in the 2017 Indian Wells Masters quarterfinals. Other matchups in the quarterfinals include Stan Wawrinka vs. Dominic Thiem, Pablo Carreño vs. Pablo Cuevas and Jack Sock vs. Kei Nishikori.
