Manny Pacquiao made easy work in defeating Jesse Vargas in Nov. 2016 at the Thomas and Mack Center, Paradise, Nevada, USA. At one point, the neophyte senator in the Philippine senate sent Vargas to the canvas.
Vargas for his part, did have some occasional successes with his looping right hand as his primary weapon. But Pacquiao's speed, force, and stamina proved to be too much for Vargas to handle, who in the process, lost his WBO welterweight crown to the Filipino boxing champ.
Despite the dominance of Pacquiao in that fight, Vargas has made it known he wants a rematch with Pacquiao - this time around he said he will beat him, according to BoxingScence.
To make things a bit more outlandish, Jessie Vargas said, before Manny Pacquiao he would like to beat up Timothy Bradley first, also in a rematch. In their first bout, Bradley, who was already twice defeated by Pacquiao in their trilogy, was schooling Vargas for almost the entire duration of the fight, except in the remaining fraction of the 12th round where Vargas caught and hurt Bradly - and then a bizarre incident ensued.
While Vargas was launching full attack to finish off the wobbly, but recovering, Bradley, referee Pat Russell stepped in and stopped the fight, believing he had heard the final bell. But there was actually seven seconds left, causing Vargas to believe he won on TKO. Eventually the fight was decided on the basis of the scorecards that allowed Bradley to walk home with the interim WBO welterweight championship. The what 'ifs' inside of those 7 seconds make for a strong case of a rematch Vargas argued.
Assuming Vargas earns a chance to avenge his prior loss to Bradley - and further assuming he did beat Bradley, can he get a similar treatment from Pacquiao or Bob Arum, Pacquiao's long-time promoter, for that matter? From all indications, it seems Vargas' wish is a jab on the moon. There is very little, or none at all, reason for them to face the second time unless Vargas is able to beat an interim opponent who is in the calibre of a Floyd Mayweather, Jr. or a Juan Manuel Marquez. Not a Timothy Bradley for sure.
