Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Rumors: Browns to Make Another Offer For Patriots Backup Quarterback

Jimmy Garoppolo has been linked with the Cleveland Browns since the New England Patriots won Super Bowl LI last month. According to the latest rumors, the Browns are reportedly going to make another run to acquire Garoppolo from the Patriots.

The Patriots are built to achieve the perfect season and their sixth Super Bowl title next year. They will have Tom Brady back with Jimmy Garoppolo as his backup. New England can afford to pay their backup QB in the upcoming season but he will be a free agent after it.

Trading or retaining Jimmy Garoppolo is one of the few questions for the Patriots heading into the league meetings next week. According to Tony Grossi of ESPN, the Browns front office are going hard after the 25-year-old quarterback when they get to meet Patriots head coach Bill Belichick in person.

"The Browns' pursuit of a trade for New England backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo could come to a head at the NFL owners meetings beginning Sunday in Phoenix," Grossi reported.

However, Peter King of The MMQB insists that the Patriots are not interested in trading Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason. The team reportedly views him as the heir to Tom Brady's thrown. Many people expect Brady to retire if the Patriots achieve the perfect season and their sixth Super Bowl title.

The Browns have loads of draft picks this year and next year, and they could put on quite a package for Jimmy Garoppolo. However, the Patriots will likely only consider a deal if Cleveland throws in the 2017 first overall pick, which is not going to happen.

Texas A&M defensive Myles Garrett is the consensus first overall pick in this year's draft and he is a great building block for a team like the Browns. It would be really stupid on their part to trade the first overall pick for an unproven quarterback.

Nevertheless, all the Jimmy Garoppolo trade rumors are not going to die down anytime soon. The annual NFL League Meeting will be held in Phoenix, Arizona starting on Sunday, March 26 until Wednesday, March 30.
