New York Knicks Could Trade Carmelo Anthony, Draft Josh Jackson This Offseason

The New York Knicks are heading into the offseason full of uncertainties including the future of Carmelo Anthony. Knicks president Phil Jackson is expected to trade the ten-time All-Star this summer and they are already looking to draft his replacement.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Knicks are "committed" to finally trading and parting ways with Carmelo Anthony this offseason. Several teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers could revisit their interest after failing to agree on a deal at the trade deadline.

The Knicks have found little success running the triangle offense this season with Carmelo Anthony among the player preferring the fast-paced run and gun style. However, the triangle offense is the key to the Knicks' success next season and they need to get rid of Anthony to finally move on to the next chapter.

Kristaps Porzingis is the future of the Knicks but they need to make him the face of the franchise next season. Phil Jackson should start rebuilding and acquire talent that will compliment Porzingis and not Anthony.

Besides free agency, the Knicks will find talent in the loaded 2017 NBA Draft. They are projected to get at least one of the talented point guards in the draft like Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, Malik Monk, De'Aaron Fox, Dennis Smith and Frank Ntilinka. However, it seems like they are focused on finding the replacement for Carmelo Anthony.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks are looking to draft forward Josh Jackson of the Kansas Jayhawks. Jackson stands at 6-foot-8 and he is known for his passing and defense, skills that are tailor-made for the triangle.

Jackson averaged 16.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for Kansas this season. He also defends really well, something that the Knicks need at the moment. Nevertheless, it should be noted that these are just purely speculative and nothing has been confirmed.
