But little is known about the new console except that Microsoft is promising it to be the most powerful console to date. But with that much power will also come with a hefty price tag.
The Xbox Scorpio is pegged to be the savior of the Xbox One who is slowly but surely obscuring its relevancy. For Microsoft, the best way that to reverse their fortune is to release the most powerful console. It is said that the Xbox Scorpio is playing, streaming and recording at 4k resolution. This will make it the only console capable of doing so which will hopefully entice buyers.
With those features, it's only natural to expect a high price point which may be the case for the Xbox Scorpio according to a report. Based on a story from Game Rant, the Xbox Scorpio could launch at $500 or maybe more. The information comes from HD report who cites sources within Microsoft.
However, like all rumors, this should be taken with a grain of salt. But if the Xbox Scorpio does come with all the features mentioned, the $500 selling price wouldn't be surprising. But with that price point, it risks potential buyers from purchasing the console.
It should be remembered that Playstation 3 launched at $600. At that time, it was the most powerful console. Unfortunately, the console suffered from weak sales in the early part of its release. It was only after a price cut and a newer model that the console started to pick up sales. Ironically, the Xbox 360 was the leading console during that time. The same fate could happen with Xbox Scorpio if the selling price is too high for its target audience.
It's imperative that Xbox Scorpio to sell well because otherwise, the Playstation and Nintendo will be left to dominate the market. For consumers, a monopoly would bring bad news which could increase prices. Xbox Scorpio must succeed for console gamers to benefit.
