Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Adrian Houser completed the eighth inning despite feeling sick in Sunday's 10-9 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 25-year-old Houser made his fifth Major Baseball League appearance against the Phillies but failed to perform well as he threw up on the field twice before he could even throw a pitch. It can be brought up that the Brewers asked Houser to pitch the eighth inning with the team behind by three runs.
Not A First
Craig Counsell, Brewers team manager, immediately handed Houser a bottle of water before checking on his reliever on the dugout. However, Houser failed to show his top form in the next sequences as he allowed Scott Kingery to finish with a run-scoring double before flying out and grounding out Cesar Hernandez and Rhys Hoskins respectively. Additionally, Houser was able to hurl 16 pitches on the eight and was able to get the heave-ho following a single inning.
"For Adrian today, it was just kind of a combination of a bunch of factors. He wasn't under the weather at all, but it was an early wake-up call, not enough food, heat, probably a little nerve from getting to the big leagues today," Counsell said.
Counsell added that it was the first time for him to witness a pitcher throw up in the mound. The current Brewers manager played 16 seasons in the majors before overseeing the squad in 2015.
Milwaukee Brewers In The Top 3
Despite the loss, the Brewers are still among the top teams in the National League Conference as they sit in the third spot with a 42-30 win-loss record behind the Chicago Cubs and the top-seed Atlanta Braves. Completing the top eight are the Arizona Diamondbacks, Washington Nationals, Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Brewers will look to rise to the top as they take on Pittsburgh on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home on Thursday to go up against the Cardinals. Milwaukee will close out June against Kansas City and Cincinnati.
Not New To The Majors
Prior to his appearance in this game, Houser has already played for the Brewers twice this season. He has also appeared in two games for the Brewers in the 2015 MLB season.
However, several experts argue that Houser could have been dehydrated heading into the game. The former second-round pick traveled early in the morning from the Triple-A. In addition, Milwaukee's recorded temperature on that day was recorded at 92 degrees.
Houser was selected by the Houston Astros in the 2011 MLB Draft. He will turn free agent in 2024.
