UFC fighter Cris Cyborg hinted that she might leave the UFC after she gets her hands at bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.
Cyborg, who is coming off an impressive first-round knockout victory over Yana Kunitskaya in UFC 222 two months ago, is still under contract with the Las Vegas-based promotion until March. UFC is currently working on the potential date of the Nunes-Cyborg fight.
It wasn't the first time for Cyborg to leave a hint about leaving the UFC, as the MMA fighter has shown a great interest in moving into boxing. Earlier this May, Cyborg told HBO Boxing that she hopes to fight welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus in a boxing match once her UFC contract runs out.
"I think this fight will be my last in the UFC because my contract expires in March, and doing this fight in December, I think it will be the last that people will see me fight," Cyborg said.
According to multiple sources, Cyborg's dissatisfaction with the women's featherweight division has been the primary reason of her intention to leave the company. She believes that the UFC hasn't created contenders that would challenge her for the belt.
The featherweight star also expressed her disappointment on the current roster of The Ultimate Fighter 28. The TUF 28 features a collection of female featherweights and heavyweights. Among the fighters that will compete in the TUF 28 is Katharina Lehner, Macy Chiasson, Bea Malecki, Leah Letson, Marciea Allen, Pannie Kianzad, Julija Stoliarenko, and Larissa Pacheco.
Interestingly, six of the eight said competitors have fought in the bantamweight division for the most part of their careers. Cyborg believes that there are fighters in the featherweight division that could give her a challenge, but according to her, the UFC insisted that she should go up against Nunes.
Cyborg vs Nunes Later This Year
Nunes and Cyborg were supposed to do battle in the Octagon at UFC 228 on Sept. 8, but the former decided to turn the date down. The UFC is currently working on a possible UFC 232 fight between the two, which is scheduled on Dec. 29.
Cyborg questioned Nunes' decision to move the fight to a later date. She said that Nunes should be ready, most especially since the bantamweight fighter called her out in the first place.
The UFC tried to put up a fight between Nunes and Cyborg last year, but the talks were unsuccessful. Nunes is coming off a fifth-round technical knockout victory over Raquel Pennington in Rio de Janeiro.
