Washington Football Team owner Daniel Snyder has been in the news recently after making the decision to change the name and logo of the Washington Football team in response to requests from Native American groups who felt the old name could be construed as offensive.  The name change will also unveil a new look for the team, including new helmets, while the team awaits a final decision on what its new moniker will be.

But in recent weeks, Snyder has also found his name turning up in the news, with far less favorable associations. In early August, Snyder filed a lawsuit to subpoena New Content Media in the hopes of discovering the culprit behind fake propaganda and defamations made against him on their website, MEAWW.com.

Snyder and his legal team aim to find out who is responsible for hiring companies to commission disparaging news articles and propaganda aimed at harming his reputation. Per a report released by TMZ Sports, Snyder also sued New Content Media for $10 million, filing the lawsuit in India, where the company's headquarters are located.

Court documents filed by Snyder and his counsel call for the revelation of the identity of "the third parties involved in hiring [meaww.com] to publish these false and defamatory articles."

The legal filing declares that Snyder is the victim of false accusations and defaming allegations, and that his objective is to discover the entity or entities behind the bribery leading to this smear campaign. Snyder's legal counsel intends to subpoena New Content Media in order to obtain more information from them to discover who has been paying them to publish defamatory articles and social media posts attempting to link Snyder to the sex trafficking scandal surrounding Jeffrey Epstein. These articles first appeared in July on MEAWW.com, a site published by New Content Media, as well as in several anonymous Reddit posts that making the same allegations.

Snyder is also accusing New Content Media of posting a defaming headline that read "Will Dan Snyder rename the Washington Redskins the 'Epsteins?'" while also falsely alleging "drug use" on the part of Snyder - allegations that Snyder refutes as "utterly untrue" and having no "legitimate journalistic basis whatsoever."

The articles published on MEAWW.com caused additional further to Snyder's public image and reputation once these false allegations were subsequently mentioned in over 22 additional internet publications, generating over 160 million online impressions and being viewed by millions of readers.

While New Content Media took down the defamatory articles in response to Snyder's threat to pursue legal action in the matter, but TMZ Sports reported that sufficient damage had already been done, according to Snyder and his legal team, to warrant moving forward with legal action.

The allegations made against Snyder were published at a time when the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, involving the sexual trafficking of underage girls, had resurfaced in the media amimd rapidly spreading rumors that an impending Washington Post article was under way. The Washington Post story disclosed details of sexual harassment allegations presented by 15 women, and naming a long list of public figures said to be affiliated with Jeffrey Epstein.  While the list of names included a number of internationally known figures, Daniel Snyder's name was never mentioned on the list, nor did any of the women who came forth to speak against those public figures ever make any accusations against Snyder.

Snyder and his legal tem are optimistic that his good name will be cleared, given the lack of evidence against him and the lack of credible journalistic sources surrounding the defamatory articles.

Meanwhile, as rumors abound that the 2020 NFL Season is scheduled to begin on time on September 10, Snyder remains focused on preparing his team for the upcoming season.  Earlier, he announced that he was providing The Washington Football Team a period of 12 months to seek and receive feedback from its players, as well as sponsors, alumni players, and community of supporters, regarding what the team's new permanent name will be. Some suggestions for a new name include the Washington RedHawks, Red Tails, or Red Wolves, in keeping with the team's red and gold team colors, while other suggestions such as the Renegades or Warriors are also on the table.
