Washington Football Team Thumps Dallas Cowboys To Grab NFC East Top Spot

Thanksgiving Day is too perfect for celebrating with this success from a tenacious team.

The NFC East became a wild west when the Washington Football Team clobbered the Dallas Cowboys to a 41-16 romp in Arlington, Texas, on November 27.

With that win, Washington grabbed the top spot in the division with a 4-7 win-loss record. They also enjoyed a clean sweep of the Cowboys since 2012.

Antonio Gibson of Washington charged a fiery assault to their rivals and ended with a career-high 128 yards. The rookie never looked back after seizing a five-yard touchdown, the Washington Post reported.

Washington's Alex Smith rallied an offensive strike as he ignited a whopping pass to break the Cowboys' defense.

However, the Cowboys trimmed the lead to 20-16 just in time Smith intercepted a pass.

As per New York Post, Dallas' Ezekiel Elliott succumbed with just 32 yards as his team struggled to cut the deficit. The two-time rushing star collapsed into errors against Washington.

"I never would have dreamt in a million years something like this would be happening. Just thankful for it and making the most of it every day," Smith said.

Andy Dalton's touchdown pass to Amari Cooper at 54 yards was the last lead that Dallas rode at 10-7, according to ESPN.

Before half-time, the Cowboys still managed to clip the lead at 17-13. Greg Zuerlein gave his team breathing room after blasting a 32-yard bomb. Dalton flashed his brilliance on a quarterback sneak from 28 yards.

Logan Thomas solidified his tough drive for the five-yard touchdown in the first half. J.D. McKissic gained the momentum to stroll a 12-yard advantage atop the Cowboys. Washington overthrew the Cowboys at 17-10 with 2:26 remaining in the second outing.

Dallas never waivered in their hopes, but they slipped early due to injuries. After capping 3-0 earlier, Cameron Erving and Zack Martin got injured following a hard drive.

Zuerlein trounced a field at 33 yards. He gave Dallas comfort at the start of the match.

Washington tripped on misses through Dustin Hopkins. The placekicker turned his errors into two field goals at 23 and 26 for another Washington lead.

Smith was not ordered to slow down throughout the game. His rushing pass to McKissic made leeway for his latter goal for a first down and six yards on the first half.

Despite the elusive win, Washington collapsed and failed to score in the beginning. It was the 11th time that they suffered a terrible opening in 11 games this season.

Gibson's first touchdown was an igniter for Washington in the first quarter. The rookie running back threw a five-yarder at both ends. Thomas completed a 28-yard clamp to his teammate Terry McLaurin to pull another magic from beneath.

The loss for the Cowboys doubled as they lamented over Markus Paul, the strength and conditioning coach of the team. The 54-year-old coordinator experienced a medical emergency on Tuesday then died the following day. A moment of silence filled the arena as respect for Paul.
