Kevin Patra of the NFL reported that Rivers is now departing the professional scene after 17 years in gridiron football. The NFL Films launched Rivers' best highlight when it comes to his sideline: the art of trash-talking.
Rivers, who played for the Los Angeles Chargers for most of his career, spent his last season with the Indiana Colts. The 16-year former Chargers quarterback stated that his "childhood dream" was to play as a QB in the NFL.
The Super Bowl accomplishment may not be on his chronicles, but Rivers' feats told another story of his fairy tale football stint. The 39-year-old veteran trailed behind co-vets Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Brett Favre, and Peyton Manning in the passing record. Rivers ranked fifth in the history of the NFL after posting 63,440 passing yards.
Rivers has been chosen for the Pro Bowl eight times and was declared the 2013 NFL Comeback Player of the Year. He is also included in the league-best touchdown passes in fifth place, where he recorded 421 TD passes. Again, he was behind the abovementioned players.
Besides Rivers' contribution to his teams, he became popular with his trash-talks that the NFL has treasured for years. While other forms of verbal attacks are deemed to be over-the-limit, vulgar, and below-the-belt, Rivers' way of 'pleasing' his opponents is music to everyone's ears.

Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt showed how he respects Rivers' special chatter. In a report by Sportress of Blogitude, Watt posted a tweet highlighting the "hell of a" expression only to change it later to "heckuva." This denoted that even if Rivers trash-talks his competitors, he still refrains from further "cursing."
The NFL Films did not let the day pass without complimenting how Rivers changed the name of the game when it comes to his "wordplay." The film and production company congratulated the Alabama-born athlete, who is always opinionated but too entertaining to watch.
The five-minute clip is a trip down memory lane of Rivers' compilation of highly-rated banter. The football wordsmith in him will soon depart, but at this point, the fans could only remind themselves that such a moment is gold in a sea of silvers.
Who knows if the NFL Films will create another masterpiece anthology of the future Hall of Famer.
For Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich, ferocity and loyalty can be seen in Rivers at the same time.
"Philip is one of the fiercest competitors and most loyal teammates that our game has ever seen. His unwavering conviction as a leader and elite intelligence contributed to his Hall of Fame football career. Philip made our game better and the National Football League was fortunate to have him," Reich stated.
While his post-season legacy is lackluster, according to the Yard Barker, Rivers will go down in history as one of the most hardworking players in the league. In 2007, he entered the AFC Championship with a torn ACL, even when, in the end, the Los Angeles Chargers were defeated by the New England Patriots.
