With Giannis Antetokounmpo finally giving the Milwaukee Bucks their first NBA championship in 50 years, the state of Wisconsin now shifts its attention to their other favorite sports team, the Green Bay Packers. However, there's some troubling news on that front as sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that quarterback Aaron Rodgers turned down a two-year extension from the Packers this offseason.
Rodgers turns down an extension in latest twist to transfer saga
The said deal would have tied the reigning MVP to the Green Bay organization for five more seasons and make him the highest-paid quarterback and player in the National Football League. The bitterness between Rodgers and Packers management dates back to last year when Green Bay drafted quarterback Jordan Love in the first round.
Things then got heated last January when Green Bay lost a heartbreaking NFC Championship match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Trailing by eight points in the dying minutes of that contest, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur opted to kick a field goal instead of trusting Rodgers with a fourth and goal situation. The rest, as they say, is history with Tom Brady and the Bucs pulling off the 31-26 win and later capturing the Super Bowl title over the Kansas City Chiefs.
That ill-fated decision drew the ire of Rodgers, leading him to share his issues with management. Sources told Schefter back in April that Rodgers does not want to return to Green Bay anymore, but the Packers' top brass remained bullish in their stance that they won't trade the three-time NFL MVP.

Rodgers' offseason very different in 2021
The stand-off between the two sides has continued with a training camp scheduled to begin on July 28. Rodgers has not yet shown up to voluntary OTAs this year, the first time he has done so in his long career with the Packers.
That being said, he has kept himself busy this offseason. Rodgers appeared as a guest host on the popular game show "Jeopardy!" and participated in a made-for-TV exhibition golf event alongside Tom Brady, Phil Mickelson, and Bryson DeChambeau. Rodgers showed his golfing talent as he and DeChambeau won over Brady and Mickelson, 4 & 3.
He is also a happy man, as we speak, with the Bucks winning the NBA title. Rodgers purchased a minority stake in the Milwaukee Bucks franchise back in 2018. He now owns the team alongside Marc Lasry, Wes Edens, Jamie Dinan, and Mike Fascitelli and will get a championship ring as a result.
That's ring no. 2 for Rodgers, in addition to the one he won as a Green Bay Packer back in 2011 when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV. The question now is will he make another championship run with the Packers in the future, or is this the end for Rodgers in Green Bay. Time is running out for both sides to decide, with the 2021 NFL season set to start on September 9.
