China opened its Olympics campaign with a strong start, bagging three gold medals and one bronze medal in the official start of competitions of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

China clinched the first gold medal of the Tokyo Summer Games via Yan Qian, who scored 251.8 points, a record, in the women's 10m air rifle.

Adding to China's gilts were weightlifter Hou Zhihui and fencer Sun Yiwen.Hou Zhihui broke three Olympic records during the final - snatch at 94 kilograms, clean and jerk at 116 kilograms, with a total score of 210 kilograms, en route to her gold medal in the women's 49-kgs class.

Sun Yiwen, for her part, edged Ana Maria Popescu of Romania, 11-10, to win the women's epee individual gold medal.
