Team USA Hopes To Get Back Into the Gold Medal Column as 2020 Tokyo Olympics Enter Day 8; Check Their Schedules Today

Team USA will look to bounce back on Day 8 of the Tokyo Olympics after not winning any gold medals the previous day. Among the American athletes who can end Team USA's gold medal drought today include swimming superstars Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky, and male archer Brady Ellison.

Also returning to action on Day 8 is Team USA, which will look to formally seal its entry to the knockout rounds in men's basketball with a win over the Czech Republic. Saturday ushers in the third round of the men's golf event in the Tokyo Olympics, with Team USA's Xander Schauffele currently holding the solo lead.

Time flies fast here in Japan as we are now on the penultimate day of the swimming events at the Tokyo Olympics. The Americans have dominated in the pool in this year's Summer Games, racking up a total of 24 medals, six of which are golds.

Dressel and Ledecky gunning for more gold medals

They can further add to their burgeoning medal tally on Day 8 with Tokyo Olympics gold medalists Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky seeing action in the finals of their respective events today. Dressel has already won two gold medals in this year's Summer Games, capturing titles in the men's 4x100-meter freestyle relay and the men's 100-meter freestyle.

Ledecky, on the other hand, has won a total of three medals in the Tokyo Olympics but only one gold thus far. Ledecky won the title in the inaugural women's 1500-meter freestyle event while settling for silvers in the women's 400-meter freestyle and women's 4x200-meter freestyle.

Dressel will be competing in the men's 100-meter butterfly while Ledecky will take part in the women's 800-meter freestyle. Both Dressel and Ledecky enter these finals as the overwhelming favorites as they hold the world records in these two events.

Dressel can win one more gold medal if he is included in Team USA's lineup for the mixed medley relay, a huge possibility given his prowess in either freestyle or butterfly. Pool action starts at 9:30 p.m. ET and can be seen live on NBC.

Archery, golf, and basketball, events to watch on Day 8

Brady Ellison resumes his quest for a maiden Olympic gold medal in men's archery later today as he looks to end the Republic of Korea's unprecedented dominance in the sport. Ellison is ranked no. 1 in the world in men's archery and has won three Olympic medals, but he has yet to reach the top of the podium in the Summer Games.

He can end the long wait with wins in the last four rounds of the men's individual event. Ellison will face Jacob Wukie in an all-American round of 16 matchup, starting at 8:30 p.m. ET and can be seen live on Peacock. The quarters, semis, and finals will take place a few hours later, with CNBC airing the live broadcast at 2:15 a.m. ET.

Xander Schauffele is in a prime position to take home the gold for Team USA in men's golf as he holds the solo lead entering the third round of the competition. You can catch the third round live on Golf Channel with action beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET.

All eyes will also be on Team USA in men's basketball as the Americans end their preliminary round with a critical game against the Czech Republic. Both teams are tied at 1-1 in Group A, and Team USA needs a win here to advance to the knockout stages. The action starts at 8 a.m. ET and can be seen live on NBC's streaming service Peacock.
