The Seattle Seahawks began life without Russell Wilson with a loss as they suffered a 23-20 defeat at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football. They will look for a much better result in another primetime game when they host the New Orleans Saints in this week's edition of Monday Night Football. Read our preview to see who has the edge in this Saints vs Seahawks showdown.

New Orleans Saints enter Week 7 as -5 favorites

The New Orleans Saints headed into their bye week feeling good about themselves after they convincingly defeated the Washington Football Team in Week 5. The Saints pulled off a 33-22 win over Washington to improve their record to 3-2, 1.5 games behind leaders Tampa Bay in the NFC South standings.

Jameis Winston bounced back after a sluggish performance in Week 4, completing 15 of 30 passes for 279 yards and four scores, including a Hail Mary touchdown to Marquez Callaway on the final play of the first half that swung the momentum in the Saints' favor.

Winston prioritized getting Alvin Kamara involved in the passing game after the latter had zero targets in the Week 4 loss to the New York Giants. Kamara contributed this time around, catching five passes for 51 yards and a touchdown against Washington. He just missed out on another touchdown after a 67-yard catch on the end zone agonizingly bounced out of his fingertips.

Winston and co. will be licking their chops at the prospect of facing a Seattle secondary that is fifth-worst in the NFL in passing defense, allowing 292.3 yards per game through the air this season.

Seattle Seahawks installed as +5 underdogs

The alarm bells are starting to ring for the Seattle Seahawks, who sat at the bottom of the NFC West standings with an abysmal 2-4 record after a heart-breaking 23-20 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.

The Seahawks looked to be on their way to a famous victory after battling back from a 14-point halftime deficit to force overtime. However, Geno Smith made a crucial mistake in the dying minutes of the extra period, as he was strip-sacked by T.J. Watt with Devin Bush picking up the loose ball. Chris Boswell took full advantage, converting the ensuing 36-yard field goal to hand the Steelers the vital win.

The Seahawks are losing ground fast in their division as they now trail the red-hot Arizona Cardinals by four games heading into Week 7. The bad news for the Seahawks is that starting quarterback, Russell Wilson, is still a month away from returning to the lineup following surgery on his right middle finger.

Even with the loss, the outlook is positive for the Seahawks heading into their Week 7 clash against New Orleans. Their ground game finally got going in the loss to Pittsburgh, with Alex Collins recording the first 100-yard rushing game by a Seattle Seahawks since December 15, 2018.

Smith was also solid apart from his late miscue, completing 23 of 32 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown. Those numbers are not bad, considering he was making his first NFL start in four years. After the game, the Seahawks also got some good news with defensive end Darrell Taylor, avoiding serious injury after being stretchered off in the loss to the Steelers.
