Eagles vs Lions Week 8 Odds, Picks, and Preview: Campbell to Avoid 0-8 Start for Detroit

Dan Campbell had a difficult start to his career as head coach of the Lions, losing his first seven games with Detroit. Can he stop the losing skid in Week 8 and record his first win against Philadelphia in the Eagles vs Lions showdown?

Philadelphia Eagles installed as -3.5 favorites

Philadelphia's losing woes show no sign of ending as the Eagles suffered a 33-22 defeat at the hands of the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7. The Eagles now lost five of their last six games to drop to 2-5. They are losing ground fast in the NFC East as they trail the red-hot Dallas Cowboys by 3.5 games.

The Eagles will look to get their season back on track when they travel to Detroit to face the hapless Lions. It is important for the Eagles that Jalen Hurts delivers a solid game in this matchup. He struggled mightily against the Raiders, completing just 18 of 34 passes for 236 yards with two touchdowns.

Hurts completed just 56.9 percent of his passes since the Week 1 win against the Atlanta Falcons. Hurts may be entering the last chance saloon with reports surfacing in Philadelphia that his demotion is only a matter of time. Hurts will need to impress against a Lions team that is eighth-worst in the NFL in passing defense, allowing 383.0 yards per game through the air this season.

Detroit Lions enter Week 8 as +3.5 underdogs

Dan Campbell was again denied his first win as Detroit head coach after the Lions suffered a 28-19 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The Lions looked to be on their way to a famous win after scoring the game's first 10 points and building a 19-17 edge entering the fourth quarter. The Rams battled back, however, outscoring the Lions, 11-0 in the final period to hand Detroit its seventh loss.

Jared Goff had a great opportunity to record an upset win over his former team, leading the Lions to the Los Angeles 12 late in the fourth quarter with Detroit down by just six points. The Rams' defense stood tall, however, as Jalen Ramsey nabbed a crucial interception in the end zone with Goff being hit by All-Pro Aaron Donald. The pressure is mounting on Goff to get Detroit on the win column. He is 0-14 in his career in the NFL without Sean McVay as his head coach.

Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles may be the Lions' best opportunity to get a win this season. The Eagles have struggled with their defense this season, with opposing quarterbacks completing 74.4 percent of their passes against Philadelphia. That was evident in their Week 7 loss to Las Vegas, with Derek Carr completing 31 of his 34 passes for a 91.2% completion rate.

The Lions need Goff to attack the Eagles' weakness for them to pull off their first win of the season. Goff completed 22 of 36 passes for 268 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in the loss to LA.
