Joel Embiid, the center for the Philadelphia 76ers, received his first NBA MVP award on Tuesday.

Embiid's Outstanding Season

Embiid had an outstanding season, achieving a career-high of 33.1 points per game, along with 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.7 blocks, 1.0 steal, and 1.0 three-pointer made per contest.

The newly-crowned MVP also attained a career-best of 54.8 percent in field goal shooting.

He was crucial in leading the Sixers to secure the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 54-28 record.

Although Embiid has been sidelined with a knee injury and missed the past two games, the team has taken a 1-0 series lead against the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2022-2023 NBA playoffs.

Green praised Embiid for being honest about his desire to become NBA MVP and doing everything he could to achieve it.

Now that Embiid has accomplished his major personal goals of two scoring titles and an MVP award, the next logical step in his progression would be to win a championship.

The Sixers are only three wins away from accomplishing that goal, but getting past the reigning Eastern Conference champion Celtics will take a lot of work.

The Sixers are heavily favored to go past either Miami Heat or New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, should they get Embiid back and beat Boston.

Although the Sixers managed to win Game 1 without Embiid thanks to 45 points from James Harden, Embiid's importance to the team's success throughout the playoffs reflects his status as MVP.
