For the second time in less than two months, Deion Sanders has been fired from the troubled charter school he co-founded, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The newspaper reported the school gave no reason on Tuesday for the NFL Hall of Famer's dismissal from the Prime Prep Academy and board chairman T. Christopher Lewis said the move came as a surprise.
"I did not approve this dismissal nor would I have made that decision," said Lewis, who described Sanders as a "significant asset to the school."
The News reports Sanders has been the public face of the school since its inception and officials adopted his "Prime Time" nickname as their own. According to the paper, when students learned of the move many of them walked out in protest.
"Tribulations works your Patience but you must hang in there and Stand for what you know is Right," Sanders wrote on Twitter. "'TRUTH' always reveals itself in the end."
In October, Sanders was briefly fired after a co-worker accused him of assault, only to be hired back almost immediately. Lewis said he now expects this issue to be addressed at a board meeting scheduled for Friday.
"I would imagine some of the board members would want to know the rationale for this firing," Lewis said.
