In a joint post on social media, FC Barcelona and Sergio Busquets announced Wednesday the departure of the 34-year-old veteran from the club at the end of the season.

Sergio Busquets Leaves FC Barcelona
Busquets was an integral part of FC Barcelona's dominance of the footballing world, which began during the latter half of the 2000s and continued well within the next decade. He made his first team debut in 2008, helping Barça win their first continental treble in the 2008-09 season. Further success ensued, with Barcelona winning the Champions League again during the 2010/11 and 2014/15 seasons. Busquets was a starter and a vital contributor on all these teams, with the 2010/11 Barcelona side considered by some as the greatest team of all time. His vision, playmaking, positioning, and calmness were all keys to Barcelona's success during this run. Busquets became Barcelona's club captain in 2021 following the departure of Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain. As captain, he lifted his first trophy for the club last January 2023 after Barcelona defeated fierce rivals Real Madrid in the 2023 Supercopa de España final. With Barcelona on the verge of winning the 2022/23 La Liga, Busquets could soon lift his second and final trophy as a captain. While nothing is official, Busquets is expected to continue his career in Saudi Arabia.
