Alejandro Burzaco Will Not Be Fined

No further penalties will be imposed on him. He already surrendered $21.7 million and served his sentence.

Burzaco provided insights into the corrupt world of soccer media and hosting rights, confessing to bribing officials at FIFA and some of its regional affiliates for marketing rights to the World Cup, Copa America, and other competitions.

Burzaco stated that he was not the only person involved in such activities. He alleged that Qatar had bribed FIFA for the 2022 World Cup hosting rights, and this claim was corroborated by other sources, including the documentary "The Men Who Sold the World Cup."

He testified in 2017 to paying bribes to Juan Angel Napout, who headed CONMEBOL, South America's governing soccer body, from 2014 to 2015 before being detained on corruption charges.

Burzaco also implicated soccer officials in Brazil and Peru, with the former being found guilty and the latter being acquitted. Additionally, he provided testimony during the trial of Hernan Lopez and Carlos Martinez, former executives at 21st Century Fox. They were accused of offering bribes in exchange for broadcasting rights. Lopez was found guilty, while Martinez was acquitted.
