Vinicius Jr. Racial Abuse Brings Back Bad Memories For Lewis Hamilton

During the interviews in the build-up to the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, Hamilton admitted that the incident "hit home" and brought back unwanted memories for him.

The Mercedes driver is the first and remains to be the only black driver in the history of the sport.

The 38-year-old brought up the abuse he experienced while racing in the U.K., Italy, France, and Spain, which the superstar described as having "hurtful" words said to him.

He then commended Vinicius Jr. for being brave amid experiencing the same thing by standing tall and strong, continuing to be humble, and being responsible because there are a lot of kids watching, according to an article by ESPN.

Hamilton previously posted an Instagram story containing Vinicius Jr.'s post, saying he stands with the Brazilian footballer.

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion was granted an honorary Brazilian citizenship last year. He won the first of his seven titles in the country at Sao Paulo in 2008.
