Kyrie Irving started his recruitment plans as early as now while the NBA Finals are ongoing.

NBA insider Shams Charania reported that the crafty point guard is attempting to lure former Cavaliers teammate LeBron James to play for the Dallas Mavericks.

Irving is on an expiring contract with the Mavs, ending on June 30. He is set to become a free agent this summer.

Kyrie Irving Aims to Form Big 3 With LeBron James, Luka Doncic

According to Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes, Irving reportedly wants the Mavericks to explore trading for LeBron James to create a new Big 3 with himself and Luka Doncic.

Both Irving and James have expressed interest in a reunion, with James pushing for the Lakers to acquire Irving when he requested a trade from the Nets last February. However, the Mavericks ultimately won the sweepstakes.

The duo played together for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2014 to 2017, making the NBA Finals in all three seasons together and winning the NBA championship in 2016.

Luka Doncic has established himself as one of the league's best players, being a member of the All-NBA First Team for four consecutive seasons.

The Slovenian also named James as his favorite player growing up, according to an interview in his rookie season.

"I always looked at him as my idol," Doncic said.

However, the chance of forming a LeBron-Kyrie-Luka Big 3 under the league's strict new Collective Bargaining Agreement would be improbable. The new CBA resembles a hard cap, making having three max contracts on a roster difficult.
