After a fruitful 17-year career, Louis "Lou" Williams has announced his retirement from professional basketball in a video that featured a heartfelt letter penned by his daughter Jada.
The Philadelphia 76ers selected the 36-year-old as the 45th overall pick in 2005. He spent the first seven years of this career in Philly before moving on to the Atlanta Hawks.
The crafty scorer tore his ACL in March 2013, and the Hawks subsequently traded him to the Toronto Raptors, where he won his first NBA Sixth Man of the Year honor in 2015.
He spent the next season and a half with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he continued establishing himself as one of the league's premier bench players. Williams briefly spent time with the Houston Rockets in 2017 before returning to Los Angeles with the Clippers the same year.
The 6-foot-1 guard cemented his legacy as one of the league's greatest bench players after he claimed more Sixth Man of the Year awards back-to-back in 2018 and 2019.
Williams returned to Atlanta in 2021 via a trade in the final stop of his successful NBA career.

Lou Williams is the Most Prolific Sixth Man
Williams has scored the most points by a reserve in NBA history, surpassing the previous record held by Dell Curry in 2019.
He broke another record held by the father of Stephen Curry in February 2022 when he came off the bench for the 985th time to become the player with the most games played as a reserve.
Williams' three NBA Sixth Man of the Year awards is also tied with Jamal Crawford for the most ever.
