Czech Marketa Vondrousova pulled off a sensational victory over Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in the semifinal of the Wimbledon tournament, winning in straight sets, 6-3 6-3, at the Centre Court in London, England on Wednesday.

"I cannot believe it, I'm just very happy that I made the final against Elina, she's such a fighter and also such a great person and it was a tough match. I'm very happy," Vondroušová said in the post-match interview.
The 24-year-old became the first unseeded woman to reach the final of the world's oldest tennis tournament in over half a century after all-time great Billie Jean King did the same feat in 1963.
Vondroušová previously made the final of the Roland Garros in 2019, and she won the silver medal for women's singles tennis during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which was held in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Wimbledon finalist will be gunning for her first Grand Slam title against Tunisian Ons Jabeur on Friday, who notched an upset win over world number two Aryna Sabalenka.

Ukraine still proud of Elina Svitolina
Svitolina is in the midst of a comeback trial after giving birth to a daughter last October with French husband Gael Monfils, also a professional tennis player. He achieved a peak world ranking of number 6 in November 2016.
Ukrainians remained proud of their compatriot despite the loss, with Ukrainian ambassador to the UK Vadym Prystaiko and his wife, Inna, sitting in the royal box to support Svitolina.
