Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown and the franchise discussions for a potential lucrative $295 million extension over five years have taken a halt, according to the Boston Globe.

The 26-year-old is going overseas for an organizational event as one of the vice presidents of the National Basketball Players Association. He plans to resume negotiations with the Celtics when he returns.

Sources say there are no signs of tension between Brown and the team, but there are also no surefire signs of an imminent deal two weeks into free agency.

The two-time All-Star is entering the final year of his current contract, worth $31.8 million for the 2023-24 NBA season.

Celtics still ironing out the details of new Jaylen Brown contract

Brown's potential five-year, $295 million deal is the largest contract in NBA history if the Celtics offer the proposal.

Reports say that the team is not hesitant to shell out the generous contract, but minor details need to be agreed upon, such as the player or team option, or whether the yearly eight percent change in salary will ascend or descend, or if the deal will have a trade kicker.

Celtics president of basketball operations and general manager Brad Stevens seemingly confirmed their intention of keeping the 2023 All-NBA Second Team selection.

"It's been all good discussion. We want Jaylen to be here for a long, long time and we've made that clear," the 46-year-old executive said last Wednesday.
