NBA approves rule changes punishing flopping

The league approved two rule changes earlier this month for the upcoming 2023-24 NBA season to punish flopping and reward successful coach's challenges.

Referees can now call a technical foul for players caught flopping during games, resulting in a technical free throw for the opposing team.

Flopping is the act of exaggerating when little or no contact is made in an attempt to trick referees into calling a foul.

During the 2023 NBA Summer League in Sacramento, Utah and Las Vegas, the league began a dry run of the new rules.
