New England Patriots' main quarterback Mac Jones has confirmed that he and coach Bill Belichick went through a rough patch, but that is all water under the bridge now as they are more focused on starting over.

The tension between the two was well publicized this summer, with Bill's former player even commenting on how the legendary coaching is doing Jones wrong.

Jones recently revealed that this rift had been smoothened out, and they are now ready to take on the new season.

"I think we're good," Jones told reporters when asked about his relationship with Belichick.

"I think the biggest thing that we've all talked about is just having a fresh start. I think there's a lot of learning experiences from last year that we've talked about and this year, it's all about just working together, right?"

Working close together now

Belichick was criticized over how Jones was not featured prominently in the team's offense in his plans. Reports even claimed he could get fired if the Patriots' struggle continued.

That will change in the new season as Jones, the 2021 15th overall draft pick, revealed he and his coach are working close together to help him improve intellectually.

The eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach hired his friend William James O'Brien to structure his game plan.

"I think at the end of the day, he [Bill] does a great job explaining defenses and all those things that can help a quarterback, especially in the red zone because it's a little bit tighter down there," Jones said.

"But, yeah, I think (O'Brien) does a great job, as well, just explaining everything, and (assistant quarterbacks coach) Evan (Rothstein), so it's kind of those three guys that you can lean on."
