Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag learned the hard way what they need in the coming season after losing to a friendly with Real Madrid - ultra-skilled players who can go against multiple defenders.

The Red Devils vowed to the Spanish giants 0-2 in Houston, Texas, and Ten Hag thought they could have scored goals if only they had players who could push the ball up to the net.

"Two things: the pressing can be better from the start and scoring goals," he told reporters when asked about what the team lacks after the match.

"And I think we need more players who are capable to be in the one-on-ones."

He clarified that they have that type of player, but they just need to be more aggressive.

"We had the situations: it was (Marcus) Rashford, Scott McTominay, (Alejandro) Garnacho, you have to score," he said.

"It's always difficult to see... but we are working 24/7. We do a lot in the club, all the power to get this done."

Grading Onana's debut

Manchester United is moving to a new era with the release of David De Gea, who was replaced by Andre Onana.

Ten Hag is not that big on the scores, but he feels hopeful after seeing the performance of the Cameroonian goalkeeper.

"I think he was good, solid," said Ten Hag. "He made two very good saves, so he was there in the moment the team needed him, he did his job, he integrated well in our team."

Red Devils will play Borussia Dortmund next at the Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.
