Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has announced a big change in his uniform for the 2023-24 NBA season.

The recent All-Star shared the news in an interview with NBA insider Shams Charania on Stadium TV, stating that he will be switching his jersey number to 5 for the upcoming campaign.

"I'm switching from No. 1 to No. 5 this year. It should be fun. Five has always my been number. High school, college, AAU. It's always been a number that I always wanted. I tried to get it when I got drafted, I just couldn't. My teammate had it. Opportunity presented itself this year and I took it," the 21-year-old said.

As he mentioned, the rising star has worn the number in his high school days in Holy Spirit Prep and in college in Georgia.

Edwards has worn jersey number 1 for the past three seasons with the Wolves since the team selected him with the first overall pick in 2020.

Edwards will exchange jersey numbers with teammate Kyle Anderson, who wore number 5 during the 2022-23 season but prefers the number 1. The 6-foot-9 forward signed with the Wolves in July 2022.

Former Wolves wing Malik Beasley previously wore number 5 with the Wolves when he arrived at the team through a trade during the latter half of the 2019-20 season, staying in Minnesota during 2020-21 and 2021-22.

As a result, Edwards was not able to claim his desired number upon getting drafted in late 2020.
