The National Football League (NFL) and CBS Sports have announced that this upcoming season's Super Bowl 58 will have a simultaneous broadcast on the kids' television channel Nickelodeon, making it the first time that the league's championship game will have an alternate telecast on a different network.

The Super Bowl 58 will be held in Las Vegas on February 11, 2024, and CBS holds the right to broadcast the game. CBS and Nickelodeon are both part of American mass media giant Paramount Global.

"We're thrilled to partner with CBS Sports and Nickelodeon to present the first alternate telecast of the Super Bowl," according to Hans Schroeder, NFL's media executive vice president.

Schroeder added that the league's previous telecasts on Nickelodeon had been huge hits and created a new and different way to experience an NFL game.

Nickelodeon NFL broadcasts introduce the sport to younger audiences

The league's games broadcast on the kids' channel features eye-popping graphics, slime-filled end zones, and characters SpongeBob SquarePants and his sidekick Patrick Star on the telecast.

It has been praised for bringing in younger audiences to get hooked on the game and keeping adults and parents interested.

Nickelodeon has shown four "slime-covered" NFL games so far, with the first being the 2020 NFC wild-card round game between the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears.
