Superior Court Judge E. Susan Garsh has loosened the restrictions for bail she previously posted on the cousin of former New England Patriot tight end Aaron Hernandez, according to the Providence Journal.
Tanya Cummings-Singleton has been held at the Bristol County Jail since August 1 on charges of contempt of court after she refused to testify against her cousin, who is charged with first-degree murder in the execution-style slaying of former association Odin Lloyd.
The Journal reports Garsh has now ruled Cummings-Singleton, 38, does not have to remain in Franklin, Mass. upon her release if she is able to post her $15,000 cash bail. Cummings-Singleton has also been indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact of murder.
The newspaper adds that during Wednesday's hearing Cummings-Singleton lead attorney E. Peter Parker argued that his client should be allowed to reside with her two children and their father in his home in Bristol, Conn. Parker also told the court that Cummings-Singleton's sole source of income is Social Security Disability and maintains she will have a hard time posting bail.
"This is a family of extremely limited means," he later told The Journal. "There is no money to set up a second household."
According to The Journal, Parker also told the court the prosecution had turned over 100 DVDs and compact discs to the defense and he now needs "direction" to mount his client's defense. Garsh scheduled a pretrial conference on the matter for Jan. 29.
Meanwhile, Hernandez, who remains held without bail at the Bristol County House of Corrections, is set to return to court on Dec. 23 for a pre-trial hearing.
