Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokoumpo has an unpopular opinion among his NBA peers regarding the comments of sprinter Noah Lyles about the champions of the world's premier basketball league.

Unlike many NBA players, the two-time MVP agrees with Lyle's controversial comments.

"I wanted to back him up so bad, you know. He received so much backlash for saying the, like, obvious," said Antetokounmpo in an interview with the 48 Minutes podcast.

The 2021 NBA Finals MVP added that he does not think that in any other sport, a professional team could be called "world champions."

The 28-year-old said that you could only call a squad "world champions" in a national team setting, wherein different countries face each other for a trophy.

Lyles previously slammed NBA champions at the end of last month for branding themselves as "world champions."

"You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have 'world champion' on their head. World champion of what? The United States?," the 26-year-old said.

NBA players blast Noah Lyles for comments

As expected, several NBA players did not take the sprinter's comments lightly, with stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Damian Lillard, and Aaron Gordon among those who clapped back and disputed Lyles' claims.

Hip-hop sensation Drake also chimed in, but Lyles doubled down on his take by talking back to the famous musician, saying, "This is an NBA conversation."
