New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley limped off the field late in the fourth quarter of their tight 31-28 comeback victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, September 17, on the road at the State Farm Stadium.

The 26-year-old could not walk on his own and was helped by trainers after Cardinals linebacker Krys Barnes crashed onto his right ankle during a run on second-and-13 with 1:08 left in the game.

Barkley had 17 carries while rushing for 63 yards and six receptions for 29 yards, finding the endzone twice before the injury.

The 2019 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year has stayed relatively healthy during his professional career, seeing action in at least 13 games in all of his seasons except for the 2020 campaign, when he tore the ACL on his right knee during a Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears.

Giants' Saquon Barkley's Injury Status

Due to his reaction, Barkley was reportedly "walking OK" after the game despite the perceived seriousness of the injury.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection underwent an X-ray after the game, and the results came back negative, meaning nothing was broken on his ankle, as per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

The former Penn State player will undergo an MRI tomorrow to confirm the extent of his ankle injury.

The Giants will be facing the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, September 21, and Barkley's status remains unclear until the MRI is done.
