The Cleveland Guardians are looking for a new team manager to take the place of Terry Francona who opted to step away earlier this month. There are a lot of names being floated although there seems to be an odd name included in the list for the vacant team manager position.

Former San Diego Padres manager Andy Green is a curious name in the Guardian’s list. At the moment, he is serving as a bench coach for the Chicago Cubs, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on Friday, October 27.

During his time as manager for the Padres, the 46-year-old did not exactly leave an impressive mark. He lost 90 games in every single season except for 2019 when he was dismissed midseason.

He finished with an overall record of 274-366 and never finished higher than fourth in the NL West. Further, he did not exactly have good ties with players. An example was the incident involving Wil Myers back in 2018 via MLB.com.

Although his chances do not look good, the Guardians could be considering the experience he is getting as Cubs bench coach.

Vogt in the lead?

However, that may not be enough to catapult him among the favorites with Stephen Vogt believed to be the favorite for the position, ESPN reported.

The retired All-Star catcher is believed to be a serious candidate for the Guardians’ managerial vacancy. Vogt has already had two interviews with the Guardians, SI.com reported.

The former All-Star catcher currently works as bullpen and quality control coach for the Seattle Mariners.
