Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts appears well on his way to winning the 2023 NFL MVP award as the 2023-24 NFL season reaches the homestretch.

The Pro Bowl QB may have put a lid on the NFL MVP race following his performance for the Eagles against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, November 26. Philly came from behind to win over Buffalo, 37-34, per ESPN.

Hurts rushed for two touchdowns, including the game-winner. He went 18-31 with 200 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception as a passer in that game, USA Today reported.

That production was only part of the excellent season that Hurts has had. For the current NFL season, the 25-year-old play-caller has amassed 2,697 passing yards (245.2 per game). He is 242-for-358 (67.6%), with 18 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions, and has 114 carries for 410 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Here are some reasons why Jalen Hurts deserves the NFL MVP Award:

1. Eagles will fall without Jalen Hurts.

There is no question that one of the reasons why the Eagles are soaring at the moment is because of Hurts. In the two games he sat out due to an injury in 2023, Philly lost its assignments.

One game that can back this is when the Eagles faced the Dallas Cowboys last November 5. He took a hit to his left knee and was momentarily sidelined in that game.

However, Hurts returned despite the hit and finished the game throwing 207 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Eagles over the Cowboys, 28-23.

2. Hurts has outplayed most of the top QBs already.

Hurts has led the Eagles to wins over different teams with notable quarterbacks this season. That list includes Kirk Cousins (Minnesota Vikings), Sam Howell (Washington Commanders), Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins), Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys), Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) and Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills).

The only QBs he has yet to play against are Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers) and Geno Smith (Seattle Seahawks). Overall, he has faced most of these players and has the wins to back up his case as the best QB he has played so far this season.

3. Oddsmakers see Hurts as runaway NFL MVP.

With his performance so far, it is hardly surprising to see Hurts being the odds-on favorite to win the NFL MVP award.

He is given a +125 odds to bag the NFL MVP plum, a fitting addition to his decorated football resume. However, he needs to end the season with a flourish first.

Not far behind is another quarterback, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, who holds a +400 odds. Running third is Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes with a +475 per Fox Sports.

Hence, one factor that could help Hurts is the performance of the Eagles. Philly is tipped to win the Super Bowl this season, and the road to achieving that depends on how well they can stay together and win games.

From how things look right now, Philly is primed to achieve that. Hurts is one big reason for that, a reason why he is the clearcut favorite to be this season's NFL MVP.
