Over its extensive history spanning more than 70 years, Formula 1 has witnessed the entry of numerous teams into the racing series.

Some of these teams have acquired rather unconventional names, often attributed to sponsorship requirements many must accept to secure funding for their operations and existence.

The Weirdest Team Names in Formula 1 History

MasterCard Lola Team

The immensely short-lived MasterCard Lola Team debuted at the Australian Grand Prix during the 1997 Formula 1 season. Unfortunately, the team faced significant difficulties as early as their first race.

The only thing weirder than their team's name was their failure to qualify for the event. The cars were notably more than 11 seconds off the pace in qualifying, and they weren't able to join the main race.

Apart from the on-track performance problems, financial difficulties also played a role in the team's quick withdrawal from Formula 1. By the second race of the season in the Brazilian Grand Prix, they were out of the racing series.

Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber

Popularly known as Alfa Romeo Racing from 2019 to 2023, the Sauber F1 Team has declared a name change for the upcoming 2024 and 2025 seasons. The team will now be known as Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber.

Stake is a prominent gambling company, while Kick specializes in live video streaming services. However, given the gambling nature of the title sponsor Stake, it is subject to regulatory restrictions in certain countries, making the team unable to use the name in some events.

The team has affirmed that, depending on various factors such as activations, marketing decisions, and local regulations, they will occasionally adopt the name Kick F1 Team for specific races.

Notably, Stake and Kick operate as distinct companies with shared ownership, making the F1 team's ability to switch between the two identities seamless.

Visa CashApp Racing Bulls

Scuderia AlphaTauri, also owned by Red Bull and acts as the sister team, will undergo a major makeover for the 2024 season.

Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko already confirmed this fact amid the team's poor performance last season, finishing eighth in the Constructors standings, a stark contrast to the dominant performance of the leading Red Bull team.

Marko added that the two teams' operations will now be more streamlined, leading to complaints from opposing teams.

Although not officially confirmed, various clues, including domain registrations by Red Bull, have surfaced. Domains starting with "VisaCashAppRB" were discovered, closely following the registration of domains starting with "RacingBulls."

This has led to speculation among observers that AlphaTauri might likely take on the name of Visa CashApp Racing Bulls.

The name is certainly a mouthful, and the potential adoption of this rather lengthy name raises concerns about what short name or nickname the team might adopt, possibly leading to confusion among fans and enthusiasts.
