The Miami Heat and the Charlotte Hornets have completed a trade that would send point guard Terry Rozier to the Miami Heat for Kyle Lowry and a 2027 first round pick according to ESPN NBA insider, Adrian Wojnarowski.

The pick given to the Hornets is expected to be lottery protected in 2027.

Terry Rozier, who is on a four-year 97 million dollar contract that is set to expire in 2026. Rozier is having a solid season averaging a career high in points at 23.2 points per game with 6.6 assists.  He was carrying much of the load while Hornet's star point guard LaMelo Ball missed a chunk of games this season.

Kyle Lowry, who is closer to the end of his career, is averaging 8.2 points per game on 28 minutes, and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The Heat are now 24-19 and sixth in the Eastern Conference. Being in need of an upgrade at point guard for some time now; as their attempt over the summer to trade for all-star Damian Lilard was unsuccessful. Kyle Lowry's decline in production made the upgrade at the position timely and of priority.

Miami would be adding Terry Roizer to a roster that features Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Rozier would be paired in the backcourt with Tyler Herro for the Heat.

The Hornets are currently 10-31 and could make trades including moving on from veterans Gordon Hayward, Miles Bridges, PJ Washington, and Cody Martin before the deadline.
