San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has played a crucial role in the team's success, with many recognizing him as the best in his position.

The 27-year-old was drafted by the Carolina Panthers with the eighth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, following three impressive seasons at Stanford University.

McCaffrey earned recognition as a Second Team All-Pro in 2018 and a First Team All-Pro in 2019, showcasing his versatility as both a running back and a flex player in Carolina.

In the middle of the 2022 NFL season, he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a second, third, and fourth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

In his debut season with the Niners, McCaffrey quickly became an integral part of the team, earning his second Pro Bowl selection. Despite a solid postseason performance that led them to the NFC Championship Game, they ultimately lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

As the 2023 season unfolded, McCaffrey's play reached new heights, making him a serious contender for the 2023 NFL Most Valuable Player award. He shares this recognition with two exceptional quarterbacks in the league, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens and his 49ers teammate, Brock Purdy.

Christian McCaffrey Contract: $64 million

During the offseason ahead of the 2020 campaign, McCaffrey signed a four-year extension with the Panthers worth $64 million, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history on a per-year basis.

When factoring in the two remaining years on McCaffrey's rookie deal and a fifth-year option included in the agreement, the overall compensation was anticipated to reach around $75 million over six years until the end of the 2025 NFL season.

Christian McCaffrey Career Earnings

As of the conclusion of the 2023 NFL season, McCaffrey is expected to have earned $65.6 million in NFL salary during his initial seven seasons in the league, according to Spotrac.

This reported figure does not include additional income from off-field ventures such as endorsements and partnerships. It also does not account for deductions related to taxes, agent fees, and other business expenses.

Looking ahead to the remaining years of his substantial contract, McCaffrey is projected to amass $89.8 million in career earnings by the conclusion of his contract after the 2025 NFL season, assuming he remains healthy and meets specific incentives.

Upon negotiation of his next contract, which would occur when McCaffrey is either 29 or 30 years old, he will secure another big payday during the prime years of his career.

Christian McCaffrey Salary 2023

In the 2023 NFL season, McCaffrey is set to receive $12 million, making him the highest-paid running back in the league this year, per Over the Cap.

A large portion of this amount is attributed to a restructuring bonus worth $10.72 million, which was implemented to create cap space and sign rookies. McCaffrey's base salary for the season is $1.08 million, accompanied by a $200,000 workout bonus.

This total compensation represents a significant increase from his earnings in 2022, which amounted to $8.6 million between his time with the 49ers and Panthers.

Looking ahead to the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the three-time First Team All-Pro selection is expected to receive nearly the same compensation, with $12 million in the former and $12.2 million in the latter, owing to a slightly higher base salary in the final year.
