VCARB F1 Team Spells Driver Trouble in the Near Future

Unfortunately, the rebranded sister team of Red Bull, VCARB, made quite an underwhelming performance this past race in Bahrain. In partnership with the dominant Red Bull team, one would have expected maybe a bit better car performance as the two teams are permitted to share some parts with one another.

But what really sparked headlines was the heated exchange of Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda against team orders to swap positions with fellow Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo towards the end of the race.

Tsunoda and Ricciardo were both well out of the points, Yuki finishing P14 and Daniel P13. What caused the drama between the two was a team order for Tsunoda to allow Ricciardo to pass him, as Ricciardo was logging better pace and the team thought they'd have a better chance of overtaking Haas' Kevin Magnussen with Ricciardo leading the way.

The team failed to overtake Magnussen and was left with no points and a souring relationship between their drivers. Yuki feels as if he was wronged by the team's preference for Ricciardo, and Daniel feels Tsunoda's reaction was a bit "immature."

Where there is smoke, there tends to be fire. And this early driver feud may be something to keep an eye on throughout the season, as the little sister VCARB team may be in dysfunction throughout the season, but unlike its counterpart, this one's dysfunction stems from the team's performance.
