Raptors Announce How Long RJ Barrett Will Be Out After Family Tragedy

The Toronto Raptors have disclosed the timeline for RJ Barrett's return following an unfortunate family tragedy.

Nathan Tyler Barrett, the younger brother of the 27-year-old wing, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, as stated by the team and Canada Basketball.

Barrett's father, Rowan, is also the general manager of the country's men's national basketball team, hence the joint statement.

Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic addressed the media before their home game against the Orlando Magic on Friday, March 15, at the Scotiabank Arena, expressing his support for Barrett during this challenging time.

"He's going to take as much time as is needed to process this hard time for him and for his family. We're in touch with RJ and his family; our thoughts and prayers are with them. We're hoping that they can feel our support and love." 

Other details of Nathan Barrett's tragic passing

Further details regarding Nathan Barrett's death, who tragically lost his life at the age of 19, have not been disclosed. However, it is known that he passed away surrounded by family, church, and friends.

Before tonight's game against the Magic, the Raptors observed a moment of silence in honor of the late teenager.

Nathan, who played guard at Montverde Academy, aspired to be a pilot.
