New Orleans looks to increase its play on the road in order to clinch a playoff berth while St. Louis will look to avoid a third straight loss.
New Orleans improved to 7-0 at home with last week's 31-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers and took a one game lead over Carolina in the NFC South. New Orleans is 3-3 on the road and would like to play better away from the Superdome.
"We'd like to be able to take the show on the road, but definitely playing in the dome is an advantage," center Brian de la Puente said via ESPN. "We know that. Teams know that coming [to New Orleans is] a difficult place to play. There's unique things that present themselves when you're on the road and that's part of it."
Quarterback Drew Brees' own performances define the way the Saints play at home compared to on the road. Brees has thrown 23 of his 33 touchdowns at home while five of his eight interceptions have come on the road. Brees became the fifth quarterback to eclipse 50,000 career passing yards last week and he is 353-for-519 (68.0%) for 4,107 yards with 33 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
His best target has been Jimmy Graham, who leads the league with 14 touchdown receptions and has 74 catches for 1,046 yards.
New Orleans' defense is stellar at home, but the numbers don't add up on the road and the team has lost three of four on the road while allowing their opponents to score first.
The Rams will be playing at home for the first time since Nov. 21 when the team rushed for season-high 258 yards in a 42-21 victory over the Chicago Bears. The team has lost two road games in a row to the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals and was outscored 53-23.
"We are going to get better," coach Jeff Fisher said per ESPN. "Our focus is going [to be] on the Saints. That is what we are going to do."
Kellen Clemens was sacked a season-high four times in last week's 30-10 loss to the Cardinals and he's thrown for one touchdown and three interceptions in his last two games. Clemens is 91-for-172 (52.9%) thus far this season for 1,200 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions.
Tavon Austin (ankle) may be sidelined.
The Saints try to lock up a playoff berth while the Rams try to avoid a third straight loss when they take the field this afternoon in St. Louis.
