FAU Owls Are Primed to Make a Deep Run in the NCAA Tournament

The Florida Atlantic Owls (25-8 and 14-4) are back in the big dance after a historic run to the Final Four a season prior.

The Owls went on a big run last season, defeating No.9 Memphis before winning against Fairleigh Dickinson, Tennessee, and Kansas State.

Their miracle season ended against San Diego State in the Final Four, but now they are back and are hoping to recapture the magic; this time against Northwestern in Brooklyn in the first Round.

Dusty Maye and FAU could have what it takes to go the distance and look to make another impressive run, based on their play during the season and AAC Tournament.

FAU Going Into March Madness

This team is in no way a dark horse. Throughout the season, they have already proved that they can hang with some of the best in the nation.

They finished the regular season strong, winning against Memphis, UNT, and Tulane before losing their heartbreaker in the AAC Tournament against the Temple Owls.

They picked up wins earlier in the season against teams in -12 opposition in Arizona (then No. 4) and Texas A&M (then No. 12).

Johnell Davis has had a strong season all things considered for the Owls. He is averaging 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game; posting stellar performances in the AAC Tournament against UNT and Temple, dropping 18 points against both teams.

Florida Atlantic's Next Test

Florida Atlantic will be tested against a team like Northwestern.

The Wildcats have had a strong season finishing fourth in the Big Ten, tying their season record of wins in the division; and even handing No.1 Purdue their first loss.

The Wildcats made it to the No.7 seed last season before being knocked off in the Round of 32. They are looking to build off their success from a season prior heading into this year's NCAA Tournament.

Boo Buie solidified himself as a player to watch in becoming a member of the Big Ten All-First team.

This matchup feels like a toss-up, as both clubs are talented. However, FAU's experience in the tournament might put them over the top.

Both NCAA teams want to make a statement and prove they can make a deep run in the Tournament this year.

Florida Atlantic and Northwestern have seen limited success in the tournament, with the Wildcats having two appearances prior to this year and the FAU having three.
