The New York Jets are bolstering their offensive line with another significant addition to support star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The team will be signing free agent wide receiver Mike Williams, who had previously spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The 29-year-old will be inking a one-year deal valued at $15 million with the Jets, per league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Williams has been in the league since 2017 when the Chargers selected him with the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The former Clemson player had initially planned visits with the Carolina Panthers and the Pittsburgh Steelers before finalizing his agreement with the Jets.

The Chargers decided to release Williams due to his high cap charge, which stood at an inflated $32.5 million. He was set to earn a non-guaranteed $17 million in base salary during the final year of his three-year, $60 million contract signed in 2022.

Mike Williams is coming off a major knee injury

Williams is coming off a torn ACL in his left knee, sustained during the Chargers' Week 3 game against the Vikings in September 2023.

Despite the setback, he showed promise early in the season, recording 19 receptions for 249 yards and a touchdown in three games during the 2023 NFL season.

During his seven-year tenure with the Chargers, Williams amassed 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was also a College Football Playoff National Championship winner with the Clemson Tigers in 2016.
