A staff member of the Minnesota Timberwolves was terminated and arrested due to allegations of committing felony third-degree burglary involving a hard drive containing a multitude of sensitive information.

The individual in question, 33-year-old Somak Sarkar, formerly employed as a coaching analyst for the Timberwolves, stole a hard drive belonging to Sachin Gupta, the team's executive vice president of basketball operations.

Surveillance footage revealed Sarkar entering Gupta's office on Saturday, February 3, leading to his prompt termination from his position.

Sarkar proceeded to remove a hard drive connected to Gupta's computer in his office at the Target Center, the team's home arena located in downtown Minneapolis.

Following a forensic analysis, the team discovered that Sarkar had accessed around 5,700 files and transferred them to another device. A week later, Gupta successfully retrieved the missing hard drive.

Timberwolves executive's hard drive contained NBA information

The hard drive reportedly contained personal data, including tax and bank account information belonging to Gupta and his family and his social security number.

Additionally, it stored Timberwolves business data and what was described as "strategic NBA information."

Sarkar claimed that he had the hard drive with intentions to add "some stuff" onto it but inadvertently forgot to return it.

He is detained in Hennepin County Jail, and his bail is set at $40,000. His court appearance is scheduled for Thursday afternoon in Minnesota.
