New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was visibly frustrated during his postgame press conference and had an array of choice words about his team's offensive output during their 24-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday that ended with Brady being picked off in the end zone as the Pats failed to clinch the AFC East.
"We got plenty of chances all day," Brady said, according to NFL.com. "We make some good plays and we make plenty of s---ty plays."
Brady expanded on his thoughts Monday morning when he appeared on WEEI's Dennis & Callahan radio show.
"We had a lot of great opportunities to win the game and win a division title and just came up short," he told the program. "It's just frustrating all the way around....It felt like we moved the ball pretty good all day, we just couldn't get enough points on the board. We've got to try to figure out a way to get the ball in the end zone."
Brady was missing tight end and favorite target Rob Gronkowski (ACL/MCL injury), but the quarterback wasn't ready to make excuses.
"The truth is we had plenty of chances anyway, so I don't think any of those things really matter yesterday," Brady said on the show, according to NFL.com. "Is it great to have everyone healthy? Yeah, of course it is. But that didn't matter yesterday. We had plenty of chances without those guys on the field. We just have to come up with ways to score more points, because it's not going to cut it, 20 points."
A Patriots (10-4) win over the division rival Dolphins (8-6) would have clinched the team's fifth division title in a row, but now the Pats hold a two game lead over Miami with two games left to play and will have to wait another Sunday to see if they can clinch. The Patriots head to Baltimore to take on the Ravens next week while the Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills.
Brady has been the backbone of the Patriots this season with his weapons being limited due to a myriad of injuries and the defense worsening week-to-week, and he couldn't overcome the obstacles on Sunday. Brady went 34-for-55 for 364 yards against the Dolphins for two touchdowns and one interception.
On the season, Brady is 352-for-578 (60.9%) for 4,049 yards with 23 touchdowns and 10 picks.
Brady and the Patriots will undoubtedly be in the postseason, but with limited weapons and a shaky defense it'll ultimately be up to Brady to see how far this team can go.
