A rare event occurred on April 8, 2024, as rare as a talent like Victor Wembanyama.

Nike aptly released a teaser for the upcoming shoe line of the San Antonio Spurs rookie on the day the world witnessed a solar eclipse.

The alignment of the sun and the moon was visible in Mexico, Canada, and Texas in the United States.

For Nike, there is no better way to introduce an astronomical talent than using astronomical events.

The video started with a simple title card, "Somewhere in South Texas," a direct reference to San Antonio, where the French unicorn is playing.

It also used a music background similar to that of suspense thriller movies.

It featured a rice field, and when it zoomed out, an alien face carved on the field was adorned with the Nike logo.

Social media users easily connected the dots and declared that it was the logo for Wemby's shoe line, which had been teased a few months ago.

Generational shoes for generational talent

Wembanyama, currently averaging 21.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks, was spotted wearing never-before-seen Nike shoes with a round logo in February.

Nike had the 20-year-old locked long before he made his NBA debut.

He reportedly signed a multi-year deal rumored to be over $100 million with the shoe company in June 2023 when he was still playing professionally in France.

Nike has been doing this since Michael Jordan's era, although it is rare for a rookie to have his own shoe line.
