The Los Angeles Angels will be without Chase Silseth for at least 15 days after the right-hand pitcher was confirmed injured.

He was diagnosed with right elbow inflammation pending the result of an MRI exam.

Silseth, a starter for the first time in his career, suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to the Boston Red Sox.

The 23-year-old does not consider the injury a concern, but he and the team are wary due to his past experience with his elbow.

The injury was apparent in his throw after the speed of the ball went down from 95mph in the first inning to 92mph in the fifth.

"I felt it on a couple breaking balls, but I didn't think anything of it because it's getting to the plate," he said on Monday.

"They're good pitches when I threw them. I didn't really think anything. I just thought normal stuff. Then, I came in here (the clubhouse) and did my stuff and it wasn't going away after I did everything. So then I brought it up, just to be safe."

The injury is minor, and Silseth should have a career year this season after spending the last three years in the minor.

He made two appearances so far this season and allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks over eight innings for a 6.75 ERA.

He is currently 5-5 with a 5.06 ERA in his 25 major league appearances, 17 of which as a starter.

Chase Silseth injury history

Silseth showed out last season, becoming, at one point, their best pitcher after the All-Star break.

His history of injury is also thin.

The Angels had to deal with an injury scare in August last year after he was hit in the back of the head by an errant throw in a game against the New York Mets.

After a month, he had to be scratched from the roster due to a back injury, although he returned a few days later.

Ron Washington finds instant replacement

In Silseth's place is José Soriano, who cracked the majors last season and eventually earned a regular role.

Soriano has a history of major injuries, including an elbow injury that got him subjected to Tommy John surgery in 2021.

The 25-year-old Dominican pitcher managed to recover from the major setback and is now a key part of the Halos' rotation.

Manager Ron Washington shared how he plans to use Soriano while his main starter is out.

"We'll just put him out there till he can't go any more," he said.

"That doesn't mean he's going to reach 100 pitches. With him getting this opportunity, I think he'll be more consistent in the strike zone. The problem he had the last time was he couldn't land his secondary stuff. If he starts landing his secondary stuff, he's the kind of guy get quick outs, so he could be in the eighth."
