Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is on the brink of possibly breaking the NBA record for the largest single-season salary.

The 25-year-old recently received his second straight All-NBA First Team selection, making him eligible for a supermax contract in the summer of 2025.

Gilgeous-Alexander could receive a four-year supermax extension worth $294.2 million from the Thunder in the summer of 2025, as projected by front-office expert Bobby Marks of ESPN.

The proposed deal would last from 2027-28 to 2030-31, with the salary for the final year reaching an NBA record of $81.4 million, making him the first player to breach the $80 million threshold.

Despite the mammoth salary, the potential supermax contract in 2025 may not be the best option for Gilgeous-Alexander.

How Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could earn the largest contract in NBA history

Unlike Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, who is set to break the record for the largest NBA contract in the summer of 2025, Gilgeous-Alexander is only eligible for a four-year supermax deal instead of five in the same period.

NBA rules state that a player is only committed for six years from supermax signing to the end of the deal, and Gilgeous-Alexander would have two more years left on his current deal in 2025, unlike Doncic, who has one.

Instead, the Thunder star could sign a supermax deal in the summer of 2026 for a longer deal.

The Canadian point guard would then be eligible for a five-year contract worth over $400 million, the largest in the NBA's history.
