Not even a torn ACL and MCL could ruin Rob Gronkowski's Christmas spirit. Dressed up as an elf and moving via a wheelchair, the New England Patriots tight end showed up at Boston Children's Hospital along with teammate Stevan Ridley and threw around a football while spreading some holiday cheer to the kids throughout the hospital.
Ridley captured all of the action-packed footage and posted it onto his Instagram account.
Gronkowski missed the first half of the season while recovering from offseason back and forearm surgeries and now faces another operation after he tore his ACL and MCL, which put an end to his season. Gronkowski told Philly.com that he expects to make a full recovery for the 2014 season.
The report indicates that surgery can't be performed on the two-time Pro Bowler until the swelling in his knee goes down, which the doctors have predicted will occur in about two weeks.
Gronkowski, 24, dealt with the offseason surgeries on his forearm and his back which sidelined him until Oct. 20 this season, but he wasn't able to stay healthy. He appeared in seven games on the campaign and had 39 receptions for 592 yards and four touchdowns.
Gronkowski was hurt after a low hit by Cleveland Browns safety T.J. Ward in Week 14 that ultimately proved to be the end of his season.
Throughout four seasons in the NFL after being selected in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Gronkowski, a favorite target of Tom Brady's, has amassed 42 scores and mounted an NFL-record 17 touchdowns for a tight end in 2011.
The Patriots (10-4) hold a two-game lead over the Miami Dolphins (8-6) with two weeks left to play in the AFC East and will look to clinch their fifth straight division title when they close out the season Sunday at the Baltimore Ravens and then Dec. 29 at home against the Buffalo Bills.
They'll have to do so without their tight end, who traded in his helmet for an elf hat this week.
